This project starts with a love story! After 23 years in their home our clients decided it was time to downsize but with so many memories there, they were in love with their property and didn't want to move. They took a hard look at their pool house and decided to convert it into an ADU for themselves and let their adult kids and grandkids move into the main house. To make the space work, they knew they'd need to add square feet and privacy. We accomplished this by extending the front and left side of the house to add a dining room and a private patio off the back.
Upon entering this coastal style bungalow, you pass through a dutch door and are greeted with tall ceilings and plenty of light. The large, fixed glass windows in the dining area and sliding glass door to the patio showcase an expansive view of the Cajon valley. Above you is an oversized ceiling beam that draws your gaze to the intricate craftsman style molding that outfits the windows, ceiling, and base boards. A calm neutral palette allows the white molding and beige walls to blend nicely with the light natural finish wood floor.
The elegance of the home continues into the kitchen. A blue kitchen island topped with butcher block offers seating for two and hosts a built-in convection drawer. The "sea-glass" backsplash adds brightness to the room. Our clients selected the backsplash as a reminder of the beautiful beaches in San Diego. A natural finish marble countertop is a subtle tribute to the homes relaxed coastal vibe. The hood with custom built surround matches the white shaker cabinets as do the custom order white Kitchen-Aid appliances with champagne hardware. The entire home was built with wheel-chair access in mind including the distance around the island, width of the doorways, and inclusion of a curb-less shower in the bathroom.
Customer Testimonials
"The end result is amazing! The process went smoothly, the crew that we worked with was well qualified, conscientious, and worked collaboratively with us. In addition, they were all great guys and we enjoyed working with them. We felt very confident that all of the structural issues were handled appropriately. If an issue came up, alternatives were discussed and agreed upon before moving forward. We would absolutely use Woolsey Construction again and highly recommend them!"
